Who Are We?

Imelda Ojeda, LMSW, MPA

  • Imelda is a community social worker and Academic Associate at Arizona State University's School of Social Work, where she is a co-instructor for courses on diversity and oppression, program evaluation, and professional development. 

  • Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, Imelda immigrated to Arizona at 18 to attend Arizona State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, followed by dual Master’s degrees in Social Work and Public Administration at the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions.

  • Imelda has extensive experience in nonprofit management and development, with a strong focus on fundraising for national nonprofits to advance access to healthcare and promote social justice initiatives. Her work has supported impactful campaigns that address critical issues such as immigrant rights, reproductive justice, and health equity.

  • Beyond her professional roles, Imelda is an active volunteer in her community, and over the last 10 years she has lead grassroots initiatives such as the Phoenix Women’s March and at Phoenix Allies For Community Health.

  • Imelda is the founder and co-host of the Social Workers’ Break Room podcast, creating space for dialogue on critical issues in social work and beyond. She is an avid reader, traveler, slow runner, and yogi enthusiast.

 

Jennifer Tunning, LCSW, MBA

  • Jennifer is a licensed clinical social worker who is certified in gerontology and perinatal mental health and received her education from Arizona State University. She has directed social service and revenue cycle departments across the nation and currently serves as a clinical operations leader. 

  • Jennifer is passionate about harm reduction, community advocacy, and marginalized populations. She has conducted public health research and done organizing around community power building.

  • Jennifer is trained in multiple therapeutic modalities including EMDR and has worked with persons across the lifespan with a focus on trauma, substance use, birthing people, and bereavement. She believes that centering joy and moving at the speed of trust is essential to the therapeutic process to create lasting change.

  • In her spare time, Jennifer likes to hike, bake, play with her corgi, and runs the Social Worker’s Breakroom podcast.
